Giving back to the community isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we build into the way we do business.
On March 22, 2025, we had the honour of participating in the handover of $12,300 to the Goldstream Food Bank in Langford, BC, during a special on-ice ceremony at the Victoria Grizzlies’ final home game of the season at the Q Centre in Colwood.
This initiative was made possible through our Grizzlies Goal Donation Program, where Waterworks pledged $20 for every goal the Grizzlies scored throughout the season. Inspired by the initiative, an anonymous donor stepped up to contribute an additional $40 per goal, multiplying the impact and bringing the total donation to $12,300.
A Night to Remember at the Q Centre in Colwood
The cheque presentation took place just before puck drop at the Grizzlies’ final home game. Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson joined us on the ice, along with Walter Dubeau, Vice President of the Goldstream Food Bank, and hundreds of Victoria Grizzlies fans. The event also received news coverage from the Goldstream Gazette.
To celebrate the occasion, our team handed out Waterworks merchandise during the game—delivered by the owner’s nephews—to bring extra energy to the arena and show our appreciation for the community’s support.
What Everyone Had to Say
“No one else in our industry gives back like this, but that’s who we are. We’ve always been community-focused, and we think our clients really appreciate that—when they go with us, they support a company that supports their community in return.”
— Waterworks Irrigation Owner“Yeah, it’s nice to score on the ice of course, but knowing that every goal is not only helping your team win, but also the community—it’s just that much sweeter. Waterworks Irrigation’s support over these past years has been spectacular in supporting not only our team, but everyone in the community. It’s been a blessing seeing the team’s success on the ice translate into something much bigger.”
— Reegan Hiscock, Grizzlies’ top goal scorer“Local businesses like Waterworks Irrigation are the backbone of our community. Their support through the Victoria Grizzlies is a testament to the power of collaboration and the incredible impact we can achieve when we unite for a common cause. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to making a difference.”
— Walter Dubeau, Vice President of the Goldstream Food Bank Society
Why We Did It
Our goal with this initiative wasn’t just to feed the Westshore—it was to inspire other local businesses to get out there and make an impact on our community.
We chose to give to the Goldstream Food Bank because of their transparency (all of their staff are unpaid volunteers), efficiency (thanks to the discount pricing they can obtain, they can achieve roughly double the purchasing power for groceries with this $12,300 donation), and purpose (in a society with so much wealth, everyone deserves access to food).
Supporting Langford’s Goldstream Food Bank
The Goldstream Food Bank plays a vital role in providing essential resources to families and individuals facing food insecurity across the West Shore. Donations like these help fund emergency food hampers, school lunch support, and other critical services that make a real difference. We’re honoured to help sustain this work.
