A Pondless Waterfall We Built on Cedar Lane in North Saanich

–

These homeowners on Cedar Lane had an existing water feature that was deteriorating. Rather than repair a structure that was already failing, we deconstructed it entirely and rebuilt the feature they wanted from the ground up.

This was a large and complex build. We reshaped the watercourse, set each boulder and stone by hand, and engineered the drops so the water sounds as good as it looks. The stream runs beneath a wooden bridge, past a seating area, and out toward the treeline at the rear of the property.

The design is a pondless waterfall. Water recirculates through a reservoir concealed beneath the rock, so there is no open pond in the garden. The result is a feature with no standing water, considerably less maintenance, and no stagnation.

Moss, river rock, and planting were placed so the feature reads as though it has always belonged to the landscape. The homeowners have continued to add small mementos along the banks since completion.

What the client said afterwards:

“We LOVE how the water feature has turned out and we’ve been really enjoying returning a few small mementos here and there. The sound of the water is very restful and the entire feature is a wonderful addition to our garden and the time we will spend both working and relaxing there in the years to come.”
